The Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s (REC) September 2019 Jobs Outlook has shown some interesting results

PERMANENT RECRUITMENT

SHORT-TERM OUTLOOK

24% of employers of permanent staff stated that they would be increasing their permanent headcount over the next quarter

This included 31% of employers in London and 29% in the Midlands, but significantly fewer (18%) in the South (excluding London).

Just 3% of employers suggested that they would be releasing workers back into the availability pool, compared with 2% in the same period last year.

SKILLS SHORTAGES AND QUALITY OF HIRES

49% of UK employers were concerned over the sufficient availability of candidates for permanent hire

The top three skills areas of concern are noted for their high legacy dependency on non-UK nationals within the workforce.

SHORT-TERM OUTLOOK

The net balance of forecast demand for agency workers in the short term surged by 12 percentage points this quarter

Meanwhile, the proportion of employers planning to reduce headcount rose from 8% to 12%, year-on-year.

35% of employers of temporary agency workers anticipated a shortage of suitable candidates to fill these positions

Occupational Health & Wellbeing Screening Nurse            

Location: South Manchester

Job Type: Part Time Permanent (3 days)

Occupational Health Staffing are looking to recruit a part time permanent occupational health and wellbeing screening nurse to work on a permanent basis 3 days a week as part of an OH team based in Manchester. Working for a private company as part of their in-house occupational health team the role holder will report directly to the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Adviser and support the wider OH Team in delivering the service objectives.

Key accountabilities & deliverables:

  • Conduct appropriate health screening and surveillance procedures as required
  • Conduct drug & alcohol testing on employees in line with company policy
  • Maintain occupational health records via the OHS management system.
  • Management of first aid provision and development of First Aid service, ensuring medical & first aid supplies are effectively managed, ordering and maintenance of stock.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Good Verbal & Non-Verbal Communication skills
  • PC literate – Microsoft office
  • Previous screening experience – Audiometry, Spirometry, vision screening, drug testing, urinalysis, BP, BMI etc

Qualifications Required

  • RGN Level 1
  • Active registration with NMC
  • 3-5 years post registration nurse experience
  • Previous screening experience
  • An interest in developing skills and knowledge in the speciality of occupational health.
