Amazon will grow its number of UK employees to 29,500 in a move described by Chancellor Philip Hammond as a “clear vote of confidence” in the British economy

Britain is the biggest European market for Amazon, with the company adding 2,500 permanent jobs in 2018.

The company claims it has invested over £9.3billion in its UK operations since 2010.

We are delighted to be able continue to invest and grow our UK business

Doug Gurr, Amazon UK Country Manager, said: “We are delighted to be able continue to invest and grow our UK business.

Occupational Health News

A report published by the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) found that only 45 per cent of UK workers have access to Occupational Health Services despite the fact that every year over 170 million days are lost to illness.

1.4 million workers suffering from work-related conditions

The report calls for the creation of a centralised body to give guidance in OH

Other recommendations were greater support for businesses in assessing the economic benefit of OH interventions and a more investment from the Government, employers and the industry.

The report was researched by Professor Ewan Macdonald OBE, head of the healthy working lives group at the University of Glasgow

Professor Macdonald said:

“People are retiring earlier because themselves and their employers are not getting the skilled support and advice which can help people to work safely and longer”
